A local standout golfer capped another impressive week with her finish at this year's North State Girls' High School Challenge Wednesday.

Western Harnett’s Jewel Gilchrist-Lopez shot a 3-over 74, through 18 holes, at Keith Hills Golf Course Wednesday and tied for ninth in the 96-participant field.  She knocked in three birdies, two coming on the back nine, and 10 pars to claim all-tournament honors at the event backed by Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour – the largest girls-only tour in the country.

Durham native Emerson Dever took first with a 3-under 68.

The finish comes after Gilchrist-Lopez continued her dominance over All American Conference competitors this season, earning medalist honors by carding a nine-hole score of 40 at Highland Country Club Tuesday.

She now leads the AAC with a season total of 212, some 11 strokes clear of Pine Forest's Alexis Paquin.

Gilchrist-Lopez and the Lady Eagles, who are second in the conference's team standings, hit the links again Monday, Sept. 26 for an 18-hole match at Chicora Golf Club.
