BENSON — A Record area team is set to welcome seven other programs during this weekend's Johnston County Easter Invitational Baseball Tournament.
South Johnston hosts the three-day tourney starting Saturday, with nearby schools Triton and Harnett Central also in the eight-team field.
Central kicks off a first-round quadruple-header, taking on Clayton (7-6) at noon. Triton tangles with West Johnston (5-8) at 5 p.m., and the host team squares off with Cleveland (8-6) in the Day 1 nightcap.
Smithfield-Selma (5-6) and South Granville (7-3) round out this year's field.
South (7-4, 6-1 QCC), who will be the home team in all their matchups this weekend, is one of the hottest squads coming in. The Trojans won their fourth straight Quad County Conference contest during the 10-8 road victory at Fike on Tuesday.
Central (5-8, 4-6 AAC) has been playing better as of late, grabbing two wins during this week's All American Conference doubleheader against E.E. Smith.
Triton (9-3, 6-2 AAC) got back into the win column by sweeping Westover, halting a season-long three-game losing skid in the process.
Each club is guaranteed three games. All matchups, scheduled for seven innings, take place at Bruce Coats Field and have the 10-run mercy rule after five in effect.
