Registration for the 2022 Mid-Carolina Senior Games is currently available to local residents age 50 and older.

In its 36th year, the event provides participants an opportunity to showcase their athletic and creative abilities. Athletes have a host of events to choose from including track and field, bowling, corn hole, horseshoes, swimming, mini golf and more.

The competition also provides opportunities to practice Silver Arts — broken into visual, literary, heritage and performing subcategories. Visual arts include acrylics, drawing, oil, watercolor, charcoal, mixed media, pastels and sculpture. Literary encompasses essays, poems and short stories. Heritage includes basket weaving, crocheting, knitting, woodworking and pottery. Performing category has options for cheerleading, line dancing, singing and comedy.

To register, visit the organization's website; or contact Robert Nordberg by phone at 910-514-7993 or email  rgnordberg@gmail.com. Early bird deadline is March 11 and the final deadline is April 1.

Mid-Carolina encompasses Harnett, Cumberland and Sampson counties and is one of 52 local senior games within the state.

Local host sites for games and activities include Al Woodall Municipal Park, Campbell University and Town of Lillington Park’s Chamber Field. The opening ceremony is set for April 20 at Fort Bragg’s Hercules Fitness Center and the final day is scheduled for May 7.

For more information and to sign up for volunteer opportunities, contact local games coordinator LaShonda Gough at 910-323-4191 or email lgough@mccog.org.
