Sheriff: Rumors of student death on social media are false

The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office is warning social media users of a false rumor regarding a possible student death at Western Harnett High School Tuesday.

Capt. Joseph Webb reported in a press release the false rumors were created when a student at the high school became ill after using a vape pen.

“This student was checked out by EMS and was taken home by her mother,” Webb said. “As the day progressed, rumors developed that multiple students had overdosed and that one had even died. The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office would like the public to know that the information circulating on social media is false. Furthermore, the affected student is doing well.”
