Local recap and scores from area prep events, including Harnett Central's big conference win on the pitch to start the week.
ANGIER — As was the case two weeks ago, Harnett Central's boys soccer team faced another All American Conference challenger looking to knock the club from its top spot on Monday.
Then, Central downed rival Triton on the road to take sole possession of first place. This week, the Trojans defended home field and defeated Terry Sanford, 2-0, marking a season series sweep.
The victory put Central at 8-2 overall, and a perfect 7-0 in AAC play, placing them in the driver's seat to win the inaugural title crown with just three more games left.
Trojans' striker Adrian Flores kicked things off with a ninth-minute goal that gave them a 1-0 advantage.
They would take the narrow lead into halftime and battle through a physical second half until Obiora Ude netted a shot from distance in the 77th minute to seal it.
Deshawn Carty manned another stingy Trojans performance on defense, notching his second clean sheet while the team earned its fourth shutout this year.
Central plays host to Overhills on Wednesday.
Overhills led visiting All American foe Westover by a goal at halftime Monday, then exploded out the break and eventually sped to a 7-1 win at home.
Kevin Martinez led the way with two goals, while Jags teammates Christian Gomez, Aydan Harris, Sean Riggs, Michael Kees and Brandon Dieguez each found the net.
Overhills goalie Daniel Sykes punched away four saves as the team ended a five-game losing streak.
Behind a Franciso Martinez hat trick, Triton jumped on Western Harnett early en route to an 8-2 victory at home Monday.
Meanwhile, Hawks teammate Benny Villalvazo punched through two goals while also notching a pair of assists.
Omar Hernandez, Victor Cano and Luis Elizalde Valente each found the net as they outpaced the Eagles 5-1 in the first half and 3-1 in the second.
Triton (10-4-1, 5-2 AAC) faces Pine Forest on Wednesday before the two teams square off again at Western (1-7, 1-6 AAC) Thursday.
