Dunn artist Joanna McKethan has been accepted into the Watercolor Society of North Carolina 2022 Annual Juried Exhibition.

The juror for this competition, renowned watercolorist Don Andrews, will announce the winners of this statewide competition Oct. 2 during the WSNC’s annual meeting being held at Craven Arts Council in New Bern.

McKethan’s chosen artwork is titled “Orange You Lazy” and will be on display at the Craven Arts Council, 317 Middle St., New Bern, from Oct. 2 through Nov. 15. The grand opening of the show is 2 p.m. Oct. 2.

McKethan is a native resident of Dunn with nine years abroad before returning to her birth town and family property. She is a daughter of Mary Smith Allred and Joseph Henry Allred, teachers and postman.

The artist and writer has won numerous prizes in watercolor painting and poetry. She has 13 published books and is working on her third in a series.

She won first place in the Central Regional Exhibit of the same society, a show held at the Campbell House in Southern Pines in May and judged by Jean Smyth of Pinehurst Galleries.

This show is the statewide juried show coming up in October.

McKethan is a Master Signature member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina with juried acceptances into 22 of its shows over her lifetime.

She is the owner of the teaching shop Art on Broad Atelier and/or j’Originals’ where she has taught young and mature students for 40-plus years. She said she delights in imparting artistic skills to area talented artists wanting to advance.
