Athanas Kioko ran the fourth fastest 5,000-meter time in school history at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday night at Boston University.

Kioko, in his first indoor meet, clocked in at 13:48.97, setting a top five time in program history. The mark ranked 11th overall in his heat and 12th overall at the meet.

Amon Kemboi set the 5,000-meter school record last season with a time of 13:33.64. Former Campbell standouts Lawrence Kipkoech (13:41.17) and Amon Terer (13:42.78) also rank ahead of Kioko.

Iowa State’s Edwin Kurgat took first overall in the event in 13:24.04. Donn Cabral (13:25.56) and Charles Philibert-Thiboutot (13:30.79) finished in second and third, respectively, behind Kurgat.

The Camels will wait until the year changes before the next competition at the Dick Taylor Carolina Challenge on Saturday, Jan. 11 in Chapel Hill.
