DUNN — Following a historic inaugural event last year, the second annual Joe Tart Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled to make its return to Chicora Golf Club this month.
The Erwin Area Chamber of Commerce has marked Thursday, May 26, as the date for the spring tourney that honors Joe Tart, who died in August of 2020 after a long career as a local lawyer and business owner.
There are expected to be two flights, one starting at 9 a.m. and the other at 1 p.m., on a first-come first-served basis for team choice of time. Prizes are available for top winners, longest drive and closest to the pin.
Last year saw a record number of participants at the storied course as 180 players, broken into 47 separate teams, competed. The foursome of Graham Thompson, Clint Knox, David Herring and Brett McLamb took first place and two players notched a hole-in-one.
Tart was key in the revitalization efforts of Chicora as one of the major shareholders. He devoted significant time to the course, playing in past tournaments and practice rounds, and greeted members and patrons who saw him there regularly.
Registration fees include a free lunch for all participants. For more information about team sign-ups, visit Whit Bradham at the Chicora pro shop or call 910-897-7366.
