JoCo softball team takes runner-up at states

An area all-star team captured second place during the 2022 Tar Heel League State Softball Tournament hosted by Smithfield Community Park, July 21-24.

The Johnston County East 10-and-under All-Stars posted a 3-2 record during the double-elimination event to claim runner-up honors.

JoCo East earned wins over Williamston and Western Harnett in the first two rounds, then fell to Perquimans. A second victory over Western in the elimination bracket set up a Sunday showdown with Perquimans on July 24.

The rematch saw JC East fall 3-0, sealing its second-place finish.

Members of the runner-up team include: Violet Hall, Addisyn McLamb, Brinkley Hamilton, Morgan Lee, Summer Wheeler, Blakely Tant, Mikayla Leonard, Emsley Holloman, Avery Lassiter, Shaelee Benson, Raylee Workman and Massie Wood.

The group, consisting of Four Oaks, Benson and Meadow players, was coached by Anthony McLamb.
