Midway teams rout rival Hobbton

In a non-conference home doubleheader to begin the season Monday, Midway swept the boys' and girls' contests against Hobbton.

A two-possession contest at the half blew open for the Raiders, who topped the Wildcats, 66-44.

Meanwhile,  the Lady Raiders raced to a double-digit lead and never looked back, downing the Lady Wildcats 47-17.

Midway (1-0) guard Morgan Williams finished with a game-high 14 points, while Rylie Williams added 12 to go with seven rebounds and four steals. Kris'Shyia Mckoy ended with a team-leading six steals in the win.

Both Midway teams continue their non-league slate at James Kenan on Tuesday, Nov. 30.

Hobbton also matched with North Johnston, losing both the girls' and boys' contests at home Tuesday.

The Wildcats enjoyed the closest result, narrowly falling to the Panthers, 50-48.

Hobbton (0-2) forward Bennett Darden had a team-leading 13 points to go with seven rebounds. Jackson Bizzle added nine points, five rebounds and three assists and Josiah McLaurin had seven points with a game-high seven steals.

Both Hobbton teams look for redemption at North Johnston on Tuesday, Nov. 30.

South teams split opener

The hoops teams from South Johnston also matched with North Johnston during opening week, splitting the doubleheader in Kenly on Monday.

The Lady Trojans jumped on the Lady Panthers, earning a 42-23 victory.

South (1-0) freshman Lannah Price finished with a game-high 17 points, while Brooke Winbourne added nine in the win.

In the boys contest, South held a three-point halftime lead before a last-minute 48-47 loss.

Both South teams continue their non-conference slate Tuesday, Nov. 30, hosting Cleveland.
