Hide and seek

I think at some point in life we have all played hide and seek. It could have been with our friends as a child or as a parent you might have played with your young children. Maybe you played peek a boo with a grandchild that is just the right age to get such joy out of seeing your face again after it had been hidden.

When I was a kid it was one of my favorite games. I didn’t so much like being the one doing the seeking, I preferred to hide. My least favorite part of either job was running around either chasing those who had been found or trying to get to base before being tagged. What a chore to try to find someone who was hidden or running from my hiding spot to get to base.

Let’s think about hiding for a moment in light of our spiritual lives. Have you ever hidden because you were in such a place you didn’t want God or anyone else to see you let alone find you? What about God? Have you ever felt like he was hiding because you couldn’t seem to find him? In many seasons of life we can hide or God can feel he has hidden himself from us. Let me assure you today that God always knows where you are and if you seek him you will find him! I think in our spiritual walk we have times of hiding and times of seeking. You are never so hidden that you can’t be found!

Let’s look at some scripture on the matter to help better understand this. Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

I love how David writes of his seeking in Psalm 63:1. He says, “You God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.”

Are you seeking him with all your heart? Do you long to feel him near or hear him speak to you? We can make seeking Him and finding Him much more difficult than it is.

Sit with Him.

Listen to His words.

He wants to hear from you and He wants to help you. Peace, hope, joy and love are all found when we seek Him. He gives us all these things, but the world in which we live and  pour ourselves into daily can destroy us if we allow it to. Worry can consume us, but we find what matters most in this scripture: Matthew 6:33, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

We must put Him first on the long list of things we seek each day. Our hearts reflect Him when we do. Not only can we find Him, He can be found in us!

Levi Lusko says it in a way I think we will all relate to. In his book, “I Declare War,” he makes this point, “You will feel how you speak and you will find what you seek.”

Today, as we go about our day, let’s make time to hide His word in our heart and seek Him with all our heart.

We will find Him.
