A look at the upcoming preseason schedules for some area high school teams as August approaches.
It’s that time of year again.
High school football teams are juking the heat in preparation for another fall campaign. Before their respective season openers, they’ll have an opportunity to compete during a set of friendly scrimmages.
Here’s a look at the upcoming schedules for some local squads.
Following a riveting return last summer, this year’s Harnett County Football Jamboree is canceled, Triton coach Ben Penny confirmed recently in a text message to The Daily Record.
Two teams that were expected to attend the Aug. 10 event, Harnett Central and South Johnston, have agreed to link up that day in Angier.
Penny added that the Hawks also added a home tune-up with Hobbton on what was supposed to be the Harnett jamboree date.
Meanwhile, both Central and South plan to compete at other scrimmages throughout the week.
Central travels to Fayetteville Aug. 12, playing against Douglas Byrd at Westover High as part of this year’s Cumberland County Schools Football Jamboree. The session is set to begin at 9 p.m.
Triton also takes part in the multi-venue event, traveling to Cape Fear with the expected start time set for 7 p.m.
South plans to line up in the Sampson County Football Jamboree, set for Aug. 12 at Clinton High.
The Trojans are scheduled to tangle with Midway at 8 p.m. during the regular event that always features Hobbton, Lakewood, Union and host Clinton.
Hobbton plays just before its cross-county rivals, matching against Fairmont at 7 p.m.
