Recreation programs offering fall sports registration


Summer is quickly winding down for area children with the new school year just around the corner.

Local parks and recreation departments in Harnett County are starting to release their respective schedules for fall youth sports leagues.


Fall sports registration begins Monday, July 25, at Angier Parks and Recreation Department.

Flag football is available for children 6- to 8-years-old, while tackle football is open to children ages 8- to 13-years-old. Tackle football will be divided into Pee Wee (10-Under) and Midget (13-Under).

Both leagues will hold player drafts Aug. 22. Prospective players are asked to be prepared and wear cleats.

Six age divisions will be offered in soccer - 5U Co-ed, 8U Co-ed, 10U boys, 10U girls, 13U boys and 13U girls.

Cheerleading is open to children ages 5- to 12-years-old.

There will be T-ball (5-Under), coach-pitch (8U) and baseball (12U).

Youth soccer and T-ball registration have started for Coats Parks and Recreation leagues.

In-town residents may register for free. Out-of-town residents must pay a $40 fee.


The Erwin Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration for its fall youth sports programs now through Aug. 20.

Both flag and tackle football, along with boys and girls soccer are offered.

Children ages 6 to 13 (as of Nov. 1, 2022) are eligible to participate in football, broken into three divisions: termite (8-and-under), pee-wee (10u) and midget (13u).

The soccer programs consist of two co-ed leagues, for ages 4 to 6 and 8u, and is expected to have separate boys and girls leagues for both 10u and 13u.

To register, visit Erwin Town Hall Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Forms can be found online, or at the parks and recreation office.

Sign-up fees are $25 for in-town residents and $45 for out-of-town applicants. Proof of residence is required, and birth certificates are also needed at the time of registration, unless previously on file.

Each league will be played on weeknights and some Saturdays.

Fall registration concludes Aug. 15 for soccer, flag and tackle football, baseball, softball and cheerleading offered by the Lillington Parks and Recreation Department.

The registration fee is $25 for in-town residents and $40 for non residents.

Ages for each sport are soccer (3- to 13-years-old), tackle football (8- to 13-years-old), flag football (6- to 8-years-old), baseball (6- to 10-years-old), softball (9- to 12-years-old) and cheerleading (7- to 13-years-old).

Western Harnett

Registration begins Aug. 1 and concludes Aug. 13 for the following fall sports:

Boys’ and girls’ soccer (ages 4- to 13-years-old);

Boys’ and girls’ flag football (6- to 8-years-old);

Tackle football (8- to 13-years-old);

Cheerleading (7- to 13-years-old);

Softball and baseball (8- to 12-years-old).

Interested players may register in person at the parks and recreation office Monday-Friday (Aug. 1-5 and 8-12) from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration is available Aug. 6 and 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Practice begins at the end of August. 

Games will conclude the first week of November.
