Golden Apple Awards presented for December

The Education Committee of the Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce presented Golden Apple Awards for December to two area teachers, Sonia Richards and Harold Strickland.

Sonia Richards is an exceptional children’s teacher at Wayne Avenue Elementary School. Dunn Chamber Executive Vice President Heather Lawson, Wayne Avenue Elementary School Principal Yvette Carson and Assistant Principal Sheri Trudeau made the presentation.

Richards was nominated by co-worker Kirsten Sehen. The nomination stated, “Ms. Richards is an EC teacher at Wayne Avenue that works to build strong relationships with her students and their families. She stays on top of her paperwork for her caseload and specially designed instruction. She doesn’t shy away from helping her team, either! It is a pleasure to work with her!”

Harold Strickland is a career and technical education (CTE) auto mechanics teacher at Triton High School. Dunn Chamber Vice President of Education Hope Tyndall made the presentation.

Strickland was anonymously nominated. The nomination stated, “Mr. Strickland is beloved by students and staff alike. He always goes above and beyond for them. Whether it is changing a teacher’s oil, checking their tire pressure, or driving a school bus since we are short staffed, he is always ready to pitch-in and do what is asked of him. He is a role model for students and he teaches them life lessons in addition to how to maintain a vehicle. We are so lucky to have him at Triton!”

The Golden Apple Award is a chamber program to help recognize the efforts of standout teachers in the Dunn area schools. Administrators, teachers, counselors, parents and students are encouraged to nominate an outstanding teacher currently teaching full time at a Dunn area public or private school, which is an active member of the Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce.
