Gillian’s Irish Pub coming in June

Posted

For the past 14 years, Jason and Gillian Johnson have operated Johnson’s Better Care

Facility just north of Dunn in the Mary Stewart community. Gillian Johnson hails from Ireland and has long had a desire to open a traditional Irish Pub in the area. She is about to see her dream come true.

In a building on East Cumberland Street, which formerly housed a frozen yogurt restaurant followed by a nutrition center, Gillian’s Irish Pub will open in June. It is set to be located near the Vetcare for Pets Animal Hospital on East Cumberland Street.

“We will have lots of traditional music which translates into the bluegrass genre in the United States,” said Gillian. “Of course, on the weekends, we’ll look forward to sharing 80’s rock.”

Jason is in his 50s, and Gillian is in her 40s.

“We wanted somewhere for people our age to gather that didn’t shut down at 10 o’clock,” she said. “We looked at Benson, but did not find them very business friendly. My husband is from Dunn, so that’s where we decided we wanted to open.”

There are no happy hours allowed in North Carolina. Gillian’s will offer tea time. There will be “pub grub,” lots of Guinness, traditional music and a common Irish feel, she said.

Gillian’s plans to begin hiring staff about four to five weeks prior to opening its doors.
