CARY — Triton's Ruby George raced to a top-10 finish during one of two events she took part in at this year's North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 3A Swimming and Diving State Championships on Feb. 11.

In the 100-yard backstroke final, George took ninth place by finishing in 1 minute, 3.30 seconds. Carrabus' Emily Carpenter earned gold with a first-place time of 54.97.

The Hawks junior also took part in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 19th place.

George caps her season, in which she was crowned All American Conference champion in the 100 back and also took bronze in the event during regionals.

Meanwhile, Harnett Central swimmer Ayden Burckhardt joined George in representing area schools at states.

Burckhardt competed in the 500 freestlye, taking 14th with a time of 5:17.97.  Carrabus' Brandon Miller claimed first by posting a 4:31.77.

The Trojans swimmer was a key contributor in the boys' AAC title and also finished fifth in the 500 free at regionals.
