DYB District 11 Championships set for June 25-28

LILLINGTON — Pint-sized pitchers and slim sluggers are set to invade western Harnett County again this weekend.

Lillington Recreation Park houses this year’s Dixie Youth Baseball District 11 Championships starting Saturday, June 25, with two tickets to the state tournament up for grabs.

Brackets are separated into two different age groups – AA (8 and under) and AAA (10u).

The AA competition, which allows coaches to throw pitches, features five teams with Lillington and Dunn each boasting a club. On the AAA side, four teams collide with Lillington’s all-stars being the only local competitors.

In addition to the two Harnett municipalities, District 11 also includes Hoke County and Hope Mills, which has a pair of teams in both brackets.

Each tourney follows a round-robin format in which every team is guaranteed to play one another at least once. The two squads with the best record in their respective brackets following these pool-play matchups move on to next week’s finals.

The coach-pitch Lillington All-Stars open tourney play against Hope Mills (American) Saturday at 10 a.m., and will end its first day against Hoke in the afternoon. Dunn faces Hope Mills (National) at 11:30 a.m. on Day 1, then later plays Hope Mills (A). Lillington and Dunn kick off Day 2 with a 12:30 p.m. tilt before Dunn takes on Hoke later in the afternoon and Lillington wraps up pool play against Hope Mills (N).

Lillington’s 10u all-stars open with Hoke at 1 p.m. Saturday, play Hope Mills (N) at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, then conclude pool play with Hope Mills (A) on Monday, June 27.

Hoke claimed the bid to last year’s state tournament, while host team Lillington took top honors for the AAA side.

The 2022 DYB Division II State Tournament runs from July 8 to 15 in Dunn.
