Posted

A Thursday afternoon head-on collision took two lives and injured three others on Olivia Road near Underwood Drive in Harnett County.

Emergency responders were dispatched at 12:28 p.m. to a two-vehicle collision with two persons pinned-in and at least one fatality. Harnett County paramedics and fire personnel arriving on the scene found two people dead and three others injured.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers report a licensed minor was operating a Dodge Charger that traveled left of the center line and struck a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix head-on.

The driver of the Pontiac, Delois Harrington Redwine, 73, of Sanford, died in the wreck. Also killed was Rita Brooks Wirts, 68, of Sanford, a passenger in Redwine’s vehicle. McLeod Funeral Home in Sanford is handling the arrangements for both women.

The underage driver and two other passengers from the Pontiac were transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville. No status of the three injured was available at press time.

Charges are still pending according to officials with the State Highway Patrol.
