The Cape Fear Christian Academy softball team, on July 14, secured one more accolade to add to its already impressive collection this year.

Town of Erwin Board of Commissioners awarded the group a special proclamation that honored its most recent NC Independent School Athletic Association state championship.

“Working together, these young ladies illustrated that drive, skills and good sportsmanship can certainly pay off,” read the proclamation. “And they serve as a shining example to other athletes and Town of Erwin in general.”

CFCA captured its eighth NCISAA state title, defeating Pungo Christian 7-6 during the final game of their title series.

Among those on hand to accept the plaque on behalf of the Lady Eagles was Methodist University signee Kim Bordeaux, who scored the winning run in Game 3 while also notching the win as a pitcher.

Joining her was teammate Megan Harrold, who forced in the game-sealing score by drawing a walk.

CFCA closed the season with a 19-5 overall record, were named Sandhills Athletic Conference regular-season co-champions while also claiming the league tournament title.
