Hollingsworth's hat trick sends Central to AAC final

ANGIER — After watching the visiting sideline erupt following a late equalizer, the All American Conference's points leader immediately had the answer for her Harnett Central girls soccer team Tuesday.

Ava Hollingsworth fired a deep shot from the left side past Terry Sanford's keeper with just over eight minutes to go, ultimately sealing a 3-2 victory in the league tournament semifinal.

Second-seeded Central (15-4) advances to Wednesday's championship match, hosting No. 5 Overhills (8-8-1).

The Lady Trojans junior accounted for all three of the team's goals while helping earn a fourth straight victory in the process.

The Lady Bulldogs (11-12), who were riding a five-game win streak that included an opening-round victory over Triton on May 6, tied it at 2 by scoring with just over nine minutes left.

Emily Parker and Sinai Avalos Beltran each added an assist for Central.

Overhills used early offense to gain a 2-1 road victory at top-seeded Pine Forest on Tuesday.

The two teams were separated by just one goal during the regular season – a 1-0 Pine Forest win on April 26, followed by a 1-all draw in Fayetteville on April 29.

Melanie San Juan and Megan Lewis accounted for the Lady Jags' goals, with San Juan also providing an assist.
