The Campbell men's basketball team is set to take the court again Thursday after being sidelined last week due to saftey concerns with opposing programs, while the Lady Camels have yet to be cleared due to COVID-19 protocols.
BUIES CREEK— Campbell will host The University of South Carolina at Upstate Thursday and Friday, Feb. 11-12, in Big South Conference men’s basketball action.
Upstate was scheduled to play this week at UNC Asheville. However, a pause due to COVID-19 in the UNC Asheville program prompted a switch in the conference schedule.
Campbell (10-9, 6-6 Big South) has not played since sweeping two games from Charleston Southern Jan. 29-30. CU was set to play at UNC Asheville last Thursday and Friday before the Bulldogs went on pause.
The Camels continue to lead the Big South Conference and rank 14th in the nation in team field goal percentage. CU stands 4-2 over its last six games with both losses coming in two-possession games.
Cedric Henderson, Jr. (15.6) and Jordan Whitfield (14.9) are sixth and seventh, respectively, among Big South scoring leaders and first (.516) and second (.515) in field goal percentage.
Over the last five games, Camels forward Joshua Lusane is averaging 11 points, 8.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists while shooting 51% from the floor.
Upstate carried a four-game losing streak into Monday’s game vs. Gardner-Webb. Sophomore guard Tommy Bruner leads the Spartans and ranks eight among Big South scoring leaders (14.3).
Both games at Gore Arena will tip at 7 p.m. and will air on ESPN+.
The Big South Conference announced this week that due to a continued pause within the Campbell women’s basketball program, upcoming games for Feb. 12-16 have been postponed.
The games impacted are the Feb. 12-13 series between UNC Asheville at Campbell and the matchup between Gardner-Webb and Campbell that was supposed to be on Feb. 16.
The conference office will work with each school on rescheduling the games for a later date. Additional adjustments may be announced in the coming days.
