LILLINGTON — The Central Carolina Community College Small Business Center will host a Business Startup Summit at 9 a.m. Aug. 16 at the Harnett County Resource Center and Library in Lillington.

The summit hours are 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Attendance is free and will include lunch; however, pre-registration is required.

During this half-day summit, attendees will understand the basics of starting a business in North Carolina, including where to start and what forms are needed.

Presenters will include Holly Yanker from the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC), and special guest speaker North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall.

Representatives from First Citizens Bank in Dunn, Carolina Community Impact, Thread Capital, and the Dunn Area Committee of 100 will be available for a discussion about small business financing options.

“We are so pleased that Secretary Marshall and her team as well as the EDPNC are coming out to support prospective small business owners in our area. The pandemic brought with it a surge in interest in business ownership and our resource partners in North Carolina are rolling up their sleeves to make sure that business startup information is accessible to anyone wanting to start a business in our state,” said Terri Brown, Small Business Center Director at Central Carolina Community College.

Charity Barbee, Harnett County Small Business Center coordinator at CCCC, noted that the summit would include “best practices for running a small business as well as lending tips for financing a small business that will benefit both startups and existing business.”

A drawing will take place during the summit for a business startup package that will include $250 toward startup costs and a free subscription for business planning software.
