Campbell University defensive end Brevin Allen has collected a host of preseason accolades this summer.

Thursday,  Phil Steele and HERO Sports named the senior defensive end to their respective All-American lists.

Allen has also been named to the preseason watch list for the 2022 Buck Buchanan Award, which is presented to the national defensive player of the year in college football’s Division I Football Championship Subdivision.

He is one of 35 players on the award’s initial watch list and was named Stats Perform Second Team All-America earlier this summer.

The 2022 Big South Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year is coming off an All-American season for the Camels in 2021, leading the Big South in sacks and tackles for loss, while ranking in the top 20 nationally in both categories.

The Greensboro native, named the 2021 Big South Defensive Player of the Year, was also a finalist for the Buchanan Award last season, setting a Campbell record for sacks, while tying the program mark in stops for loss.

All 15 FCS conferences are represented on the watch list, which includes 2021 Buchanan Award recipient Isaiah Land of Florida A&M and 2020 recipient Jordan Lewis of Southern.

More players can join the watch list during the regular season and afterwards, a national media panel will select the winner. First awarded in 1995, the Buchanan includes past recipients such as Dexter Coakley, Rashean Mathis, Jared Allen and Arthur Moats.

Also this season, Stats Perform will present the Walter Payton Award (FCS offensive player of the year), Jerry Rice Award (FCS freshman player of the year), Eddie Robinson Award (FCS coach of the year) and Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Campbell opens the 2022 season, its 15th of the program’s modern era, in Buies Creek on Sept. 1.
