CARY — One golfer from Benson, and two from Dunn, turned in top 10 performances during a junior tournament in Cary this week.
Recent South Johnston grad, Cole Howard, along with Midway's Logan Atkins and Caden Hodges each finished high on the leaderboard at the Tarheel Youth Golf Association SAS Junior, hosted by Prestonwood Country Club Monday.
Howard tied second in the 16-to-18-years-old flight, and ranked third overall, with a 3-under 69. His round featured five birdies, four coming on the front nine, and one eagle. The Sandhills Community College signee was one of just six golfers in the flight to finish with a red number.
Atkins' four birdies, two on the front and back, were the highlight of an even-par round. The 2A individual state champ from Midway, who recently tied for fifth overall at nationals, worked a three-way tie in the 16-18 flight.
His former Raiders teammate, Hodges, was among the even-par trio, turning in five birdies including four on the front. The recent Midway grad, who claimed third place at states this spring, is set to join the Fayetteville State University golf team this fall.
Meanwhile, South's Kaden Gray was one of five golfers to card 1-over 73, good enough to tie for 10th in the 16-18 division and just outside the top 10 overall.
