Pictured from left are Cameron Massengill, a graduate of West Johnston High, who will attend Wake Tech; Grey Gurganious, a graduate of Princeton High School, who will attend Lenior Community College on a baseball scholarship to major in sports management; Thornton Baggett, a graduate of Midway High, who will attend N.C. He left behind a score of family and friends after a two year battle with esophageal cancer came to an end on June 6. Rose was laid to rest in Rose Family Cemetery in Lillington.

Construction crews clear and level the site of a former gas station across from Starbucks on Cumberland Avenune Wednesday. Dunn’s Burger King is set to move to the site once its new home is built. No plans have been announced for the current Burger King location in front of the Hampton Inn. Carrols LLC of New York purchased the land at 813 E. Cumberland St. from Wayne Oil Company Inc. of Goldsboro for $750,000.

A tree fell across U.S. Highway 301 just north of the town of Wade during a severe storm Tuesday night. Two vehicles traveling south collided with the tree and ended in a ditch on the side of the road. One person was transported to Cape Fear Valley Hospital with injuries. The N.C. State Highway Patrol investigated the wreck.
