North Carolina Farm Bureau President Shawn Harding congratulates Harnett County-Dunn Agency Manager Michael Lee and winning agents Anthony Mangum and Phil Addison, who were honored at a recent North Carolina Farm Bureau Federation conference. The annual meeting of the North Carolina Farm Bureau Federation was held Dec. 5-7 at the Raleigh Convention Center in Raleigh. Harnett County Farm Bureau President Dudley Langdon, not pictured, was recognized among his peers at the presidents’ and agents’ luncheon during the conference. Farm Bureau President Shawn Harding presented each winning county president with a limited edition Case knife. Each agency worked hard to qualify its county president for this recognition. Special plaques were also presented to the agents and agencies whose production was superior during the contest period.

Erwin welcomes Christmas
The Dunn Area History Museum is raffling off another firearm. This time it’s a Henry .410 lever-action shotgun. The shotgun is blued-steel with gold engravings honoring the town’s history. Tickets for the raffle are $20 each and can be purchased at the museum on Broad Street in Dunn or at Gunner’s Choice, where the shotgun is stored. That’s also where the raffle winner will fill out all of the paperwork required to acquire the shotgun once the winner is determined. Museum Vice President Mark Johnson, seen here holding the shotgun, said the serial number on the latest firearm is No. 7. There will be a total of 200 tickets sold with the drawing taking place on Jan. 7, 2022. If all tickets are sold ahead of time, the drawing will take place at that time. More information is available by calling the museum at 910-891-1772.

North Carolina Sen. Jim Burgin (R-12) of Angier was recently honored by North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein for his work in spearheading the SAFE Act. Burgin was presented with the Dogwood Award. The awards are presented annually to honor North Carolinians who work to keep people safe, healthy and happy in their communities, according to Stein. ‘Senator Burgin has spearheaded the SAFE Act to combat addiction fraud cases we’re seeing in North Carolina,’ Stein said. ‘This a growing problem, and I’m grateful for his leadership to make sure that people with substance abuse disorder are getting help instead of swindled.’ Burgin, left, holds his award, with his wife, Ann, and Stein.

Up, up and away
On Wednesday, heavy equipment was seen demolishing the former Mi Cancun Mexican Restaurant building that was destroyed by fire in July. The ‘kitchen is a total loss,’ said Bradley Kinlaw, deputy director of Harnett County Emergency Services, who was at the scene the morning of the fire. The flames burned a ‘10-foot hole in the roof.’ A recent Facebook post, which included ‘#MicancunBefore,’ has hinted that a restaurant called Ay Wey Mexican Kitchen + Tequila is opening across the street from this location on West Cumberland Street, in the former Phat Daddy’s location.
