You’re invited to Senior Fun & Fitness Day Wednesday

Seniors from Harnett County will have a chance to show off their athletic skills. On Wednesday at the Al Woodall Municipal Park in Erwin, stations will be set up to give a sample of what happens at the Mid-Carolina Senior Games to be held in April of 2019.

A football throw, softball throw, basketball shot, bocce, pickleball and cornhole station will be available for each participant to try. Starting at 10 a.m., the event will last until 1 p.m. Participants must be 50 years of age or older. All senior centers in Harnett County will participate, but those not affiliated with a center can call Vicky Walden at 910-814-6074 to register. This event is sponsored by Erwin Parks & Recreation Department, Harnett County Parks & Recreation /Anderson Creek Senior Center, Dunn Parks & Recreation, Dunn Senior Enrichment Center, Coats Senior Center, Erwin Nutrition Site, Henley Roberts Senior Center, Johnsonville Nutrition Site, Harnett County Department of Public Health, Division on Aging, Harnett County RSVP, Harnett County Elderly Nutrition Program, Dunn Area Tourism Authority and Mid-Carolina Senior Games.

Celebrating healthy aging, Mid-Carolina Senior Games prepares adults age 50 and better for the N.C. Senior Games State Finals held each fall in Raleigh. The Mid-Carolina region consists of Harnett, Cumberland and Sampson counties. In 2018, 380 locals participated in the program and 289 qualified for a chance to compete at the N.C. Senior Games State Finals. Every other year, the winners at the state level are eligible to compete at the National Senior Games. Locally and at the state level, competition is not limited to just athletic events but there are opportunities for artists. The Silver Arts Program incorporates visual, literary, heritage and performing arts. Sponsors and volunteers are needed to support the local program.
