Let’s face it, one of everyone’s favorite things about the fair is the food. And it seems like the more unusual, the more of the attraction.
You can’t go to the fair without treating yourself to a hot dog, smoked sausage, funnel cake, a smoked turkey leg or roasted corn on the cob. Over the years, fairgoers also have been enticed by all things fried, such as Twinkies, Oreos and candy bars.
This year is no exception, with a number of new foods, including Candied Bacon S’mores, made of house-made marshmallow in a graham cracker, filled with smoked bacon ganache and dipped in chocolate and topped with candied bacon.
There’s also a Crack-N-Cheese Waffle Cone consisting of a waffle cone filled with mac-n-cheese, topped with turkey barbecue, turkey cracklings, coleslaw and topped with a signature sauce.
Miss Debbie’s Specialty Apples of Benson will return to the fair again this year selling their gourmet apples. New offerings this year will include Creme Brulee Cheesecake, Pumpkin Spice Latte and Triple Threat specialty apples.
The Triple Threat consists of a Granny Smith apple dipped in caramel rolled in M&Ms, dipped again in white chocolate, then rolled in crushed Reece peanut butter cups then drizzled with dark chocolate topped with a globs of white chocolate, M&Ms and peanut butter cups.
Fans of hot sauce will want to try the Texas Pete glazed Krispy Kreme mini doughnuts.
