Western Harnett, 7 — Providence Grove, 10
Western Harnett (0-2) played much better this week, losing on a fourth-quarter field goal on the road, 10-7, to Providence Grove.
Western quarterback Tristan Ung completed seven of his 20 pass attempts for 86 yards and a touchdown. Ung threw one interception.
Eagles back Daquan McNeill rushed twice for 46 yards. Western receiver Khalil McLean hauled in five passes for 72 yards and a touchdown. Senior linebacker Lance McLean racked up 16 total tackles.
Providence Grove scored first, in the second quarter. Western Harnett responded with a touchdown in the third quarter. The final three points came on a Providence Grove, fourth-quarter field goal.
Patriots’ quarterback Andrew Poteat went 10-22 with 133 yards and a score. He also ran for 89 yards.
Drew Needham rushed 19 times for 65 yards, Jackson Jones caught four passes for 71 yards ad Jordan Hayes caught a touchdown pass for Providence Grove.
Western Harnett will play at Overhills on Thursday at 7 p.m.
South Johnston, 7 — South Granville, 14
South Johnston (1-1) ran 42 plays at South Granville, converting nine first downs and committed 12 penalties for 102 yards.
South Granville ran 45 plays, converted 11 first downs and committed nine penalties for 80 yards. Vikings’ quarterback Austin Ferguson went four for four in passing, for 58 yards. Ferguson also rushed for 39 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Justin Bullock had an interception and two sacks for South Granville.
The South Johnston Trojans play at Triton on Thursday at 7 p.m.
