The Education Committee of the Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce presented a Golden Apple Award to Kirsten Sehen, special education teacher at Wayne Avenue Elementary School. Dunn Chamber Vice President of Education Hope Tyndall along with Wayne Avenue Principal Yvette Carson and Assistant Principal Sheri Trudeau made the presentation.

Sehen was nominated by colleagues Caroline Wilson and Hannah Matthews. The nomination from Wilson stated, “Mrs. Sehen is a second year lateral entry EC teacher. I feel she is a prime example of a master teacher in the making. She is very knowledgeable of her content area. She goes above and beyond the call of duty to find ways to help her students be successful. She is a team player at school. She participates willingly and enthusiastically in all school activities. Often she is the first one to volunteer for an after school event. She is currently completing coursework to be a fully licensed as a special education teacher. She values the importance of continuing her education and collaborating with her colleagues in order to become the best teacher that she can be. I definitely feel she is deserving of the ‘Golden Apple Award.’ I am proud to call her a fellow Bulldog!”

The nomination from Matthews stated, “Mrs. Sehen is a second year teacher and she is doing a wonderful job. She is dedicated to her profession and her students. She is always working hard (getting all of that paperwork done). She is encouraging to her peers and is one of the most positive people I have ever worked with. When she needs help, she isn’t afraid to ask, but she is also helpful to those around her. She is an asset to our school and I am thankful to work alongside her!”

The Golden Apple Award is a chamber program to help recognize the efforts of standout teachers in our Dunn Area Schools. Administrators, teachers, counselors, parents and students are encouraged to nominate an outstanding teacher currently teaching full time at a Dunn Area Public or Private School, which is an active member of the Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce.
