ROSEBORO — Walter Taylor Hayes, age 79, died Sunday morning, Dec. 23, 2018, at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton, N.C.
Mr. Hayes was born on May 19, 1939, in Adamsville, Ala., the son of the late Luther Latham Hayes and Amy Estelle Collins. He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, retiring with over 20 years of service for his country. He received many medals during his time in service, among those a Bronze Star Medal, and was given five medal awards.
He was a brother of the Phoenix Lodge #8 in Fayetteville, N.C., and the Coharie Lodge #379 in Clinton, N.C.
A graveside service will be held Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at noon at Sandhills Veteran Cemetery with full Military Honors.
He is survived by a son: Nathan Hayes of Fayetteville; a daughter, Stephanie Lynn Hayes Dimberg and (husband) Ian of Oakdale, Calif.; a sister: Pat Hendrick of Ohio; grandchildren: Regina JoAnne Hayes, Dayne Daniel Dimberg and Azella Taylor Dimberg; and great-grandchild: Kristina Lilly Underwood
The family will receive friends Monday from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service, at Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home in Dunn.
