Triton science teacher awarded Golden Apple

Award presented by Dunn Chamber

The Education Committee of the Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce presented a Golden Apple Award to Catherine Gordon, a science teacher at Triton High School. Dunn Chamber Vice President of Education Hope Tyndall, Chamber Education Committee members Carnell Robinson, Robin Sasser, Tonya Sills and Lean West, along with Triton Principal Ryan McNeil made the presentation.

Ms. Gordon was nominated by parent Terry Wood and student Kendall Wood. The nomination stated, “As the parent of a junior in high school, Ms. Gordon is a gem. Not only is she a great teacher (according to Kendall), but she also keeps the parents informed of class happenings as well.

“Kendall has been blessed to have her as his physical science as well as biology teacher and I couldn’t be happier. Not only does she teach them — she LOVES them and they know it. When a teacher takes the time to hand write a note to all of her students at the end of the semester that says a lot. THS is blessed to have her!”

Kendall Wood stated in his nomination that “Ms. Gordon is a good teacher who loves her students and Oreos.”

The Golden Apple Award is a chamber program to help recognize the efforts of standout teachers in Dunn area schools. Administrators, teachers, counselors, parents and students are encouraged to nominate an outstanding teacher currently teaching full time at a Dunn area public or private school, which is an active member of the Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce.
