To the editor:
The quality of schools is one of the pillars of every community. It is also a large determinate of the quality of life for residents. Education is a chief component which moves people from poverty into economic prosperity. It is why schools are vital.
Benson Elementary and Benson Middle have been designated as “Restart” schools. And both schools have had school report card grades of “D” for several consecutive years.
I appreciate that the school board is going to make themselves available to come and hear the concerns of parents and concerned community members on July 23 at 6 p.m. at the Benson Town Hall Conference Center. We have been given an opportunity. Any turnaround of our schools is dependent on the school board, the elected officials who oversee and guide the Johnston County School System.
I encourage everyone to study the facts (https://ncreportcards.ondemand.sas.com/src/?county=Johnston), encourage people to come and ask questions of the school board. I think we can all agree that the status quo is not working for our children in Benson.
