One of Dunn’s favorite restaurants that has been closed for several months will likely reopen within a month.
Officials say renovations on the Smithfield’s Chicken ’n Bar-B-Q, on West Cumberland Street in Dunn, are nearing completion.
Construction crews are putting the final touches on what company officials call a new, state-of-the-art, prototype building. Company officials will not give an official opening date, but hope it will be by the end of August.
The new Dunn building now resembles other company locations in Warsaw and Wilmington. Eventually, all stores in the Smithfield chains will use similar buildings.
The entire old building was demolished, with items inside sold at auction to the highest bidder. The new building has taken shape over a period of four months. The outside is mostly complete, with workers still on site Tuesday.
The opening will mark the return of the chain to Harnett County. The Dunn location is the only one in the county. There are Smithfield locations in Sampson County in nearby Newton Grove, as well as several locations in Johnston County.
Smithfield President Lew Sterling said earlier this year the company built the new store as a reward to the community for supporting the business for 30 years.
