One of Dunn’s most popular restaurants is now open, with grand reopening ceremonies expected Thursday at Dunn’s Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q.
Company spokesperson Ngiare Hubbard said the popular chain is now open on West Cumberland Street in Dunn after a six month delay Tuesday.
A ribbon-cutting at the rebuilt restaurant is set to be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in front of the Harnett Crossings Shopping Center.
The new restaurant is on the same piece of land where the old Smithfield’s stood for 22 years before it was demolished, with inside contents of the building sold at auction.
The old store was what the company calls a “legacy store,” first opening in 1987.
The new Dunn store will be similar to other stores in the region as part of a company-wide effort to improve facilities and to provide better service.
The company operates a total of 39 stores.
Customers at the new store will find the same menu, with popular barbecue, chicken and related items once again flowing across the counters.
Customers will also find a state-of-the-art building, with a large dining room and a new, modern look. Diners will notice new LED lighting that uses less energy.
Other features include digital menu boards on both the drive-thru and its road-facing signs. A water-softener system has also been installed in the building. Each of the new or renovated stores will feature Tesla electric vehicle charging stations. The store will be included on the installed Tesla electric vehicle charging station.
Company officials will be on the scene Thursday to help celebrate the opening.
