Seven Camels earn Big South weekly honors

Seven Campbell athletes across four different sports received weekly honors from the Big South Conference.


The Camels swept the women’s soccer awards as Katie Lockwood was named Attacking Player of the Week, Reaghan Duval was named Defensive Player of the Week and Ashleigh Harris was named Freshman of the Week.

Lockwood bagged four goals and dealt an assist in wins at Mount St. Mary’s (3-0) and St. Peter’s (3-0). Duval recorded two shutouts and nine saves in goal. Harris scored two goals on the week.

In volleyball, Sarah Colla was named Player of the Week and Elyse Gross was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Last week, Colla led the Big South in kills (51, 4.64 per set) and points (61.4, 5.60 per set). Gross led the Big South with 68 digs (6.18 per set) last week, including a 30-dig performance in a five-set match against UNCW Tuesday night.

In football, rookie quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams was named Freshman of the Week after piling up 321 total yards and three touchdowns in his home debut.

In men’s soccer, Gideon Betz was named Defensive Player of the Week. The senior center back helped the Camels extend their shutout streak to 280 minutes after posting clean sheets against American (4-0) and George Mason (3-0).
