Sampson hospital volunteers offer gift wrapping

CLINTON — The holidays are upon us and with so much to do, from shopping to holiday parties, why not let someone take one item off your to do list. That is just what Sampson Regional’s Volunteer Services is doing by offering gift wrapping service not just during the holidays, but year-round.

Judy Naylor, director of volunteer services, started this tradition just last year and it is growing in popularity.

“Our volunteers work very hard throughout the year, working in various capacities throughout the hospital, and now during the holidays we are ramping up our gift-wrapping service,” Ms. Naylor said.

With every gift that is wrapped a small fee is charged, but that profit goes directly toward the purchase of supplies for the hospital’s Courtesy Cart service.

“The Courtesy Cart is a hospitality service that provides complimentary refreshments to families and visitors who may be spending extended hours in the hospital with their loved one,” Ms. Naylor said. “For those families waiting, this service can provide a much-needed snack and allows them to stay with their loved one.”

The volunteer’s gift wrapping service was originally started to assist hospital employees during the holidays. Employees could drop off their gifts before their shift and pick them back up before leaving for the day. Soon, members of the community inquired about the service when they heard about the convenience of dropping off their gifts.

“We had several members of the community drop off their gifts and are so grateful that they often give more than the charged amount. Those donations are just a true blessing for our program,” Ms. Naylor said.

Pricing for gift wrapping ranges from $2 for sizes from jewelry boxes to shoe boxes to $5 for anything larger. Hospital volunteers will offer this service until 4 p.m. Friday.

Volunteers also can make bows to enhance your holiday decorations. Red velvet bows are $8, multi-color bows for wreaths are $12, and if made with your own ribbon bows can be made to match your décor for just $5.

Individuals wishing to find out more about the volunteer gift wrapping service or how they can become a hospital volunteer can contact Judy Naylor at 910-592-8511, ext. 8510.
