Authorities believe the two men suspected of robbing a Johnston County gas station and killing one man are connected to robberies in Four Oaks and Garner.

According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and the Garner Police Department, the two agencies have been working together to solve a string of robberies which took place over the last few days.

The second of the robberies occurred at the Scotchman gas station near McGee’s Crossroads and resulted in the death of 23-year-old Joseph Bowling, who was visiting his mother who was working at the store around 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

According to various media outlets, Bowling stepped in when the two masked gunmen where confronting the woman. After shooting Bowling the two men fled the scene in a four door black sedan.

The first robbery took place on Nov. 12 when the same two men are suspected of robbing Reedy Creek Gas and Grocery on North Carolina Highway 210 in Johnston County.

The third robbery took place just prior to the McGee’s Crossroads robbery and shooting. It happened shortly before midnight at Han-Dee Hugo, 401 Benson Road in Garner.

“Investigators believe the suspects in all three robberies to be the same,” Capt. Jeff Caldwell of the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said. “Anyone with information pertaining to the three robberies are asked to contact the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and or the Garner Police Department.”

During the Han-Dee Hugo robbery the two men were wearing black hoodies and dark pants and masks. One suspect can be seen brandishing what appears to be a rifle or other type of long gun.

Information about the robberies can be given to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office at 919-989-5010 or the Garner Police Department at 919-772-8810.
