Dixie Youth Baseball signups underway

The Person County Recreation, Arts, and Parks Department will be having individual registration for Dixie Youth Baseball through March 18.

Leagues offered include Pre TCoach (3-4), T-Coach (5-6), Coach Pitch (7-8), Midget (9-10) and Prep (11-12). The age cutoff date for each league is May 1. Players must be 3-years-old by May 1 to be able to participate in the Pre T-Coach league.

Registration for the Pre-T Coach league is $25, all others is $30 for Person County residents, and $40 and $45 respectively for non-residents. The Pre-T Coach league plays Saturday and occasionally during the week. The T-Coach and Midget leagues play Mondays and Thursdays, while the Coach Pitch and Prep leagues will compete Tuesday and Fridays. All age groups are offered to boys and girls and players will be provided a uniform. The season is scheduled to to start April 27, with fields open for practice the weekend of March 28. Skill day is set for March 21, with times and locations to be announced at a later date.

Recreat ion depart ment to off Men’s Woden Bat Spring League

The Person County Recreation, Arts and Parks Department will be offering team registration for its Men’s Wood Bat Softball League through March 10. Coaches are asked to come by the recreation department to register their team and pick up necessary roster information forms. Players must be 16-yearsold by Oct. 16, 2014.

A mandatory coaches’ meeting will be March 10 at 6 p.m. at the recreation department. The season is scheduled to start April 6. There will be a cut-off of 12 teams in the league. Rosters, player contract forms and entry fee deadline for all teams is March 10, 2015 and teams not be considered in the league until all paperwork and entry fee has been received. The entry fee is $375 and includes a 10-game schedule with a double-elimination tournament or 12-game season with a single-elimination tournament. Non-Person County residents will need to pay a fee of $30.00.

Any wooden softball bat may be used as long as the barrel is softball size. That means the barrel must be 2.25 inches in diameter or smaller. Wooden baseball bats may not be used.

Games will be held at Huck Sansbury with some games needing to be played at Allensville or Hurdle Mills. Games nights will be decided on at the coaches’ meeting.
