Overhills Middle shuts out Coats-Erwin


The Overhills Panthers remained unbeaten with a 24-0 win at Coats-Erwin on Wednesday.

Following a scoreless first quarter, Overhills took an 8-0 lead with 4:23 remaining in the first half on a 5-yard quarterback keeper. The Panthers extended their lead to 16-0 on a 90-yard touchdown pass with :03 second left in the half.

Overhills added their final score late in the third quarter on a 9-yard quarterback keeper around the left end.

Nate McKoy, Hunter Pope, and James Shaw played well defensively for the Falcons.

Now 3-0 on the season following earlier wins over Western Harnett and Dunn, the Panthers face defending conference champion Highland next week in a battle of unbeatens.

Coats-Erwin, which falls to 2-2 with the loss, has an open date next week and will host Western Harnett on Nov. 7.
