Morgan named Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week

After winning his weight class at the Navy Classic, Campbell’s Andrew Morgan has been named the Southern Conference’s Wrestler of the Week.

Morgan went a perfect 5-0 at 174 pounds in Annapolis, opening the day with a 4-0 decision over Indiana’s Dillon Hoey, then pinning Logan Stanley of Ohio (3:18) to move on. The redshirt junior edged Nick Stephani of Bucknell 4-3 before earning a 7-4 decision over Brown’s Bryce Rogers. In the 174 championship bout, Morgan topped Edinboro’s Jacob Oliver 12-6 to capture the title.

Morgan was one of two Camels to take individual titles at the Navy Classic, along with Josh Heil at 149 pounds. Two Camels also placed at heavyweight, with Odgerel Batkhishig taking runner-up honors and Laith Alsous earning a third place showing.

The 2018 SoCon runner-up at 174 pounds, Morgan is off to an 8-2 start this season.

Next up for Campbell will be a trip to the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational Friday and Saturday.
