Memorial service to be held at Chicora Cemetery, Averasboro Battlefield

The J.E.B. Stuart Chapter 483 of the N.C. United Daughters of the Confederacy will conduct a memorial service at the Chicora Cemetery on the Averasboro Battlefield on Saturday at 2 p.m. J.E.B. Stuart Chapter 483 President Belva DeMendoza will welcome those attending and introduce the N.C. Daughters of the Confederacy Division President Sara N. Powell.

The service will include the UDC official prayer, salutes and pledges, the laying of the wreath, and the placement of flags on the graves. Peggy W. Johnson, the N.C. UDC historian, will participate in the service with her rendition of “A Mother’s Story by Elizabeth Blackwell Frazier.”

The memorial service will conclude with the Lord’s Prayer, the playing of “Taps” by Joe Edwards of Dunn and a military salute by “ The Immortal Guard” re-enacting unit.

The service will be hosted by the Averasboro Battlefield Commission. The public is invited to attend the service.
