Dunn’s Majors (12U) Dixie Youth All-Stars rebounded from their first World Series loss Sunday in Lumberton with a 4-0 elimination-game win over Mississippi Monday. They played Virginia yesterday.
Starting pitcher, Anthony Jones, pitched a near-perfect game, allowing only one hit and throwing all but the final out. He allowed a drag bunt hit in the fourth inning. Due to pitch count restrictions, Ross Stevens threw the final out of the sixth inning.
Anthony pitched 5.2 innings and helped his cause, with a solo home run in the fourth inning that put his team up 3-0.
Jalen Evans followed up with a triple to right field and scored later that inning on a wild pitch. Dunn’s other two runs were scored in the first inning, highlighted by Ross’ RBI double.
“We were the home team and in the first inning Wyatt Lucas started us off with a drag bunt,” head coach Charlie Stevens said. “Wyatt stole second two pitches later. Ross hit a RBI double to score Lucas. After a fake steal, the throw back to second went to center field and (Ross) scored.”
Anthony finished with two hits in the game. Gabe Dapuyen, Braxton Davis, Jarrett Cooper, Wyatt, Ross and Jalen each had one hit apiece.
