The Just-A-Mere Garden Club members met Tuesday, May 7, for their monthly meeting at the home of Betty Lee.
President Catherine Gilmore opened the meeting with the reading of the club collect. Present were eight members.
Beverly Best led in the devotion with a weekly guide that can enhance one’s prayer life.
Members participated in a plant swap for the evening’s program.
The state meeting, which was held at Greenville’s Holiday Inn, was attended by Catherine Gilmore, Dixie Honeycut, Beverly Best and Betsy Williams. At the meeting, the club received the Jenene Curtis Smith Bird Award.
Also at the state meeting, the group heard luncheon speaker Scott Mason, known for his show “The Tar Heel Traveler” on WRAL-TV.
The president gave members wildflower seed narrow-leaf-mountain-mint.
A Memorial Day observance is planned for Thursday, May 23, at 6:30 p.m. on the grounds of Spivey’s Corner Fire Department. A wreath will be placed at the Blue Star Memorial in a ceremony to remember those that have given their lives and also for all that have served or are currently serving in the nation’s military. The public is invited to attend this patriotic ceremony.
Garden therapy conducted with Midway Elementary School and Midway Middle School was reported upon.
Betsy Williams won the hostess gift drawing winning a birdhouse.
Lee served her guests strawberry cake, chicken salad, crackers, ham biscuits, pimento cheese sandwiches, chocolate oatmeal cookies, chips and dip, mixed nuts, lemonade and iced tea.
