DUNN — Mr. James Linwood Hicks, 76, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 27, 2019, at Rex Healthcare in Raleigh.

Mr. Hicks was born March 17, 1943, in Richmond, Virginia, son of the late Roger Thomas and Annie Mae Camp Hicks. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Daniels Hicks, and stepson, Wallace Glenn Moore.

Mr. Hicks was a U.S. Army veteran and was retired from Erwin Mills where he was president of the union for 20 years and then retired from the Johnston County School System.

He is survived by his sons, Kenneth Ray Hicks of Dunn, Donald Hicks of Linden, Robert Hicks and wife Kim of Linden, and Michael Hicks of Clarksburg, West Virginia; daughter, Sylvia Averitte of Dunn; stepson, Adam Moore of Lillington; grandchildren, John Henry Averitte of Dunn, Adrian Moore of Erwin, James Robert Hicks of Linden, Jacob Hicks of Linden, Christopher Hicks of Topsail Beach, Justin Hicks of Lagrange, Adam Marshall Moore of Charlotte, Jasime Hicks of Clarksburg, West Virginia, Tanner Hicks and Tucker Hicks, both of Dunn; great-grandchildren, Darian Williams and Greyson Averitte, both of Dunn; brother, Robert Romaine of Tennessee; and sister, Joyce Madison and husband William of New Kent, Virginia.

The family received friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019 at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home in Dunn.
