I must admit nothing brings me greater joy than watching a politician try to squirm out of a sticky situation by simply blaming someone else for their own shortcomings.
Case in point, let me introduce you to California Democratic Rep. Katie Hill who announced that she would resign from Congress following a series of allegations of improper relationships with members of her staff.
Don’t get me wrong, allegations of improper relationships among politicians is hardly anything new or newsworthy, but in the case of Rep. Hill this incident is totally not her fault.
According to Rep. Hill, right-wing media and her Republican opponents are the blame for this smear campaign. Much like our beloved Hillary Clinton, who was robbed of the presidency by Russian hackers, Rep. Hill can now join a long list of politicians scarred by the wraths of that evil right-wing media.
Katie, despite the fact that you are a grown woman, capable of using sound judgment, we all know you are the victim here and you will forever be a hero. It’s not your fault, Katie, the American politician can do no wrong and we are going to need you to be strong.
I guess we take for granted sometimes how lucky we are to have politicians like Katie Hill who will always be here to remind us. It’s not your fault. It could be the fault of Russian hackers. It could be the fault of greedy Wall Street capitalist. It could be sexism. It could be gender inequality. It could be climate change. But no matter what hardship you may be going through today, always remember it’s not your fault. You are simply a victim of what could be a right-wing media assault and you need the American politician now more than ever.
It was such a revelation writing about Rep. Hill today. All this week I have been hating myself for falling short of the goals I had set for myself. Blaming myself for all my shortcoming only to come to realize, thanks to Rep. Hill, it’s not my fault.
Now if I can only sell this to my wife I will be on Easy Street.
Next time the trash is running over in the kitchen, it’s not going to be my fault. Grass needs cutting you say, not my fault. Yes, I can embrace this political victim status with the best of them.
Katie, I am sure going to miss you in the U.S. House of Representatives. I have a feeling you would have been entertaining to say the least. Have no fear, Katie, you will always be a hero of the American left, as sad as that may be.
It’s not your fault Katie, and all your supporters know this to be true.
