Eighth-grade students from Dunn Middle School and Coats-Erwin Middle School gathered at Dunn Middle for the first Future Hawks Information Night on Feb. 21.

Chorus and band students from both middle schools joined together to perform several musical numbers for the large crowd.

Dunn Middle School Principal Dr. Janet Doffermyre welcomed the students, parents and staff members from both schools. She introduced Ryan McNeill, principal of Triton High School, who began the Triton presentation on the transition from middle school to high school.

Mr. McNeill was joined by Triton counselors, Jared Collier, Morgan Colmenero, Paula Parker and Ashlyn Thompson, who shared valuable information about transitioning to high school, graduation requirements, the registration process, and tips for high school success.

The Triton team invited students and parents to the THS Curriculum Fair to be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. Students will meet teachers and discuss course sequencing and meet club advisers and athletic coaches.

Following the Triton presentation, Dunn Middle Assistant Principal Megan West and Coats-Erwin Assistant Principal Tre Perry tossed Triton T-shirts out into the crowd.

Sharon Johnson, principal of Coats-Erwin Middle School, closed the program and invited students and their parents to enjoy refreshments in the school commons area.

“Mrs. Johnson and I are so excited to bring our students and parents together for this special event, and we plan to do so each year,” Dr. Doffermyre said.

Coats-Erwin Middle School will host next year’s Future Hawks Information Night.
