Get ready to get in the game this July with Harnett County and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) by participating in a Parks & Recreation Bingo game.

Since 1985, America has celebrated July as the nation’s official Parks and Recreation Month. Created by NRPA, Parks and Recreation Month specifically highlights the vital and powerful role local parks and recreation play in conservation, health and wellness, and social equity efforts in communities all across the country.

This year, it’s all about highlighting the fun, games and offerings at local parks and recreation centers. From providing special events to sports leagues and everything in between, Harnett County has a wide variety of programs that are not only fun, but they also bring the community together.

“July is the perfect time to highlight all the benefits parks and recreation provides right here in Harnett County,” said Carl Davis, Harnett County Parks and Recreation director. “Our local parks and recreation directly contribute to reduced obesity rates, an improved ecosystem and increased property values.”

You can celebrate Parks and Recreation Month by participating in the Harnett County Parks & Recreation Bingo game. Harnett County, in partnership with the towns of Angier, Coats, Erwin, Lillington, Dunn, Cape Fear River Adventures and Raven Rock State Park, has created a bingo game that includes various recreation-themed activities across the county during the month of July.

“The Parks & Recreation Bingo game offers an opportunity for us to engage with our citizens while also bringing awareness of the benefits of our parks systems,” said Ashley Deans, Harnett County community relations coordinator. “This interactive game encourages citizens to get outdoors, have some fun, learn more about their local parks and trails, and win some cool prizes!”

To participate in the Parks & Recreation Bingo game, individuals will need to complete activities listed on the bingo card between July 1 and July 31. Once individuals complete five activities to score a bingo, they can drop off their bingo card to the Harnett County Parks & Recreation office, located in the Harnett County Administration Building, 420 McKinney Parkway, Lillington, to receive a free prize and be entered in to a raffle to win one of three grand prizes that include: a FitBit Fitness Tracker, Yeti tumbler and a tubing trip for four from Cape Fear River Adventures.

NRPA and Harnett County also encourages everyone participating in the Parks & Recreation Bingo game to share photos on social media to show how they are “game on” for parks and recreation with the hashtags #GameOnJuly and #GameOnHarnettCounty.
