Three Special Olympics North Carolina Harnett County athletes traveled to Hilton Head, S.C. They were supported by their parents and coaches. They represented North Carolina along with others in an invitational involving Florida, Colorado, Illinois, Virginia and South Carolina.

Jessica Burt and Skipper Holley competed in short court singles and won bronze and gold medals respectively. Jessica said, “It was a hard competition, but a lot of fun.”

Kelly Dixon competed in Individual Skills competition against a field of 14 other athletes and won a gold medal. Kelly said, “I made some new friends from other states.”

Upcoming events for Harnett County Special Olympics athletes include competition at the State Fall Tournament in Charlotte on Nov. 9-11.

The Harnett Camels 3-on-3 basketball team will compete. Athletes are: Brandon Barefoot, Jessica Burt, Stanley McLean, Brendan Sims, Connor Sims, and Kenneth Young.

The Harnett Volleys will also compete. Athletes are Kelly Dixon, Nahomy Franco and Skipper Holley.

Harold Bass and his caddie, Collie Wallace, will compete in level 4 9-hole golf play.

Opportunities like these for Special Olympics athletes could not be made possible without donations from Harnett County businesses, individual donations, grants from Harnett County, the City of Dunn and Harnett County Community Foundation.
