Two homes were heavily damaged but there were no injuries reported in the Erwin area Tuesday.
Fire crews responded to blazes on Raiford Road and 12th Street.
According to Erwin Assistant Fire Chief John Wilkins, three adults were inside a house on Raiford Road when a fire broke out just after midnight. They were able to escape uninjured.
The owners of the home were able to get one pet out of the home, but two pets died in the fire.
The fire collapsed the roof of the home and destroyed a car in the carport.
Crews from throughout the region also responded to a house on 12th Street at approximately 11 a.m. Neighbors saw flames coming from the home and called fire crews.
Mr. Wilkins said the owner of the home was at work at the time the fire broke out and returned after he was called to the scene. Much of the fire was located in a back section of the home.
The residents of both homes were getting assistance from the American Red Cross following the blaze.
Crews from Dunn, Erwin and Buies Creek all responded to the scene of both fires. The causes of the fires are not known.
